Distance Learning: a new phrase that has not only entered the vernacular, but pops into conversations with parents, students, educators, and more.

Merriam Webster defines distance learning as, “a method of study where teachers and students do not meet in a classroom but use the Internet, e-mail, mail, etc., to have classes.”’*

For anyone who is a parent,  distance learning can bring unique challenges.  Your child might be an introvert and love being at home in front of a screen; in contrast, your kinesthetic learners and extroverts might be struggling.

Home Buyer Trends

In working with home buyers this year, I have noticed a shift in buyer preferences. If you don’t have a guest room or home office in your home that you can convert into a learning center or work from home hub, then the kitchen, living room, and dining room become ad-hoc “classrooms”  and “offices”.

California Association of Realtors reports that “Buyer demand remains the bright spot in the housing market as low interest rates and a slowly healing economy combines with greater flexibility on where to live and the renewed importance of housing to strain a limited supply of homes.”**

If your student isn’t being dropped off at school everyday and you don’t have to commute an hour each way to work, then you start to make different decisions about where to live.

7 Tips for Distance Learning and Working From Home

Here  are some tips for anyone with kids who are distance learning or who are still working from home:***

1. Create a routine that mirrors in-person work/school: wake up at the same time, get dressed, eat breakfast before  class/work starts

2. Turn off your phone or silence it so you aren’t tempted by social  media

3. Periodically look away from the computer screen or use blue light glasses to prevent eye strain

4. Take breaks and go outside or move around whenever possible

5. Engage online in Zoom chat or Q&A  and take notes on paper

6. Keep a water bottle by your desk to stay hydrated

7. Stretch your back, neck and shoulders for 5 minutes at the end of every work or school day

To put a number on that feeling that homes are moving quickly, here is an exact statistic: “In July, existing single family homes were selling in a median of just 17 days.”**

17 days. Under 3 weeks, just a little over 2 weeks. Wow! Homes are moving quickly. If you are considering selling this year, then call us to set up an appointment with one of our real estate agents. If we price your home right, it is likely to move and move fast. Those In Escrow and Sale Pending signs go up quickly. Alternatively, if you are considering buying, please call 626-609-2130.
