Unlike Veteran’s Day which commemorates all who have served, Memorial Day is a special holiday that commemorates those who have died serving the United States of America. It falls annually on the last Monday of May. This year it is Monday May 25, 2020. Regardless of your political affiliation or whether you agree with specific wars, we can decorate the graves of those who have died serving our country. 

 

In December 2000, “The National Moment of Remembrance Act” was passed by Congress and signed by the president. As the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs explains: “The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation.”*

 

Many communities host Memorial Day ceremonies every year, but due to current restrictions on gatherings, many ceremonies have been cancelled. The Moment of Silence at 3 p.m. is a meaningful and virtual way to observe  Memorial Day across the country. This year your Memorial Day out-of-town plans might have been cancelled and your BBQ might be smaller than usual, but wherever you are this Monday May 25, 2020 at 3pm, take a moment with KALEO Real Estate Company at 3 pm to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
