This last month has included its fair share of natural disasters and nature — from earthquakes, wildfires, and extreme heat warnings advisories. We hope that all of our clients, family & friends have stayed safe and out of harm’s way during this time. Although you hope you never have to evacuate or use your emergency supply kit, it is important to have a “go bag” if evacuated or disaster hits. A “go bag” should be accessible, easy to carry (think a backpack or something that can be transported and/or lifted easily), and include things that you would need if you were away from home for a while.
From Ready For Wildfire website:
“Your ‘Go Bag’ checklist
Ensure your wildfire ‘Go Bag’ includes:
Additional items if time allows
- A 3-day supply of non-perishable food & 3 gallons of water per person
- A map with at least 2 evacuation routes
- Necessary prescriptions or medications
- A change of clothes & extra eyeglasses/contact lenses
- Extra car keys, credit cards, cash, or traveler’s checks
- A first aid kit & sanitation supplies
- A flashlight & battery-powered radio with extra batteries
- Copies of important documents (birth certificates, passports, etc.)
- Pet food & water
Additional items if time allows
- Valuables that are easy to carry
- Family photos and irreplaceable items
- Personal computer data on hard drives and disks
- Chargers for cell phones and laptops”
If you don’t have an emergency supply kit, there is no better time to prepare one than now. Do you have a “go bag”? Is there anything missing on that list that you would recommend adding?
