Did anyone else notice that Christmas trees, holiday lights and decorations have come out earlier this year than any other year. We can all sigh collectively and say — we are ready for some holiday cheer!
What traditions do you have to get into the holiday spirit? Our Southern California winter might not have sleigh-rides through the snow (except for in Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead), but there are still ways to feel festive!
Here are 10 Ways to Celebrate the Holiday Season in 2020
We love to celebrate the holidays, and like most holidays in 2020, the traditions of years past are being adjusted. This quarantine Christmas does not have to be without joy and holiday cheer, and there are plenty of socially distanced and responsible ways to celebrate while staying home or with your household.
Watch a Holiday or Christmas Movie
Elf, Miracle on 34th St, A Christmas Story, Home Alone, or It’s A Wonderful Life. Choose 1 or do a movie marathon after a long day of shopping. I recommend caramel popcorn and hot chocolate as a snack!
Present Wrapping
Bring out the wrapping paper, scissors, tissue paper, and tape and get it all done at once!
Christmas Lights
Driving by and looking at Christmas lights is a great socially distanced way to feel festive. Bundle up in your car and look at Christmas lights in Hastings Ranch in Pasadena, Thoroughbred in Rancho Cucamonga, or Naples in Long Beach. Where is your favorite spot to look at lights?
Ugly Christmas Sweaters
Find your holiday sweater and have a contest with friends & family virtually. Either schedule a Zoom where everyone showcases their sweater or post on social media and have people comment to choose the winner! Ugliest sweater wins!
Holiday Music
Whether you listen on Spotify, Apple Music, or Pandora, listen to Christmas music during the workday or when wrapping presents. We like Frank Sinatra or Michael Buble Christmas albums!
Drive Up to the Snow
Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead, Idyllwild, Mount Baldy. A snowstorm can bring snow to low elevations and within a short drive of LA and San Bernardino residents! Just be prepared for traffic if everyone else has the same idea
Chocolate Advent Calendars
Pick up a 24 day countdown calendar at Aldi, Trader Joe’s or Target and enjoy a piece of chocolate every day before Christmas.
Gingerbread House
Use a gingerbread kit, make homemade gingerbread, or use graham crackers and build the best house you can! Decorate with candy canes & gum drops!
Send out Holiday Cards or Letters
Does mailing out Christmas cards usually fall down your list with the busyness of holiday parties? With fewer parties this year, it is a great year to take family Christmas photos and mail out cards to friends and family.
Sample Hot Chocolate
Peppermint Hot Chocolate, Regular Hot Chocolate, Cinnamon Hot Chocolate, or make it adults-only and add Bailey’s. Experiment with different ad-ins and host a sampling of the different flavors. Make the best flavor a holiday tradition!
This December real estate shows no signs of slowing down. If your Christmas present to yourself is buying a new house, then give me a call so we can get a game plan together!
